The design intent was to create an all-day diner with an alfresco setup that easily transforms into a live-act club in the evening. The site is on the rooftop of a 30-meter-high commercial building. The 652-meter altitude affords the site excellent views of the city skyline sprawling over hills on two sides.
The emphasis of Dirty Martini plays a dual role of a stunning backdrop and a striking centerpiece. The almost-square site is divided into three rectangular pockets to accommodate an enclosed space, a semi-open deck, and an open-to-sky zone.
The division of space takes advantage of the fantastic views and adds to the charm. As the designed space spills over to include the views beyond the site, the experience of visual depth feels greater than what physically exists.
Diffused daylight enhances the rich natural color and texture of wood used abundantly throughout the space. Transparent glass walls divide the entire space into specific zones and maintain a visual connection.
The central spine of the structure has a 22-feet height, opening up the interior space. The architectural character of the space is defined by the four sets of V-shaped metal column-truss frames holding the pitched-roof structure together. The material palette is just as functional as it is aesthetic.
Every element used in the design characterizes the space, adding a unique flavor to the ambiance.
The design makes Dirty Martini feel like a larger-than-life space equally capable of quiet contemplation and energetic performances, subtle yet full of grandeur.
