Timeline

The given site is a villa in an upscale locality abutting one of the busiest main roads in the city of Hyderabad. The villa is tucked in very close set-backs from neighboring structures with limited foot print on the ground and first floors. The client wanted the salon to exude grandeur, attracting and leaving a lasting impression on commuters passing by.

Walls were replaced with transparent, glossy surfaces, allowing ample natural light into the space. Dense landscaping was incorporated along the periphery to provide privacy and buffer the view from neighboring properties.

The project did not come with any specific brief or unique requirements that needed to be addressed. This gave the design the liberty to host absolutely any artistic composition and incorporate creative expression without limitations. The ceiling was identified as the ideal canvas to render the design's artistic composition - a fluid form derived from a rigid geometry.

The hexagon was chosen as the perfect shape for this due to its innate ability to organically expand through its fundamental geometric lattice structure, mimicking the formation of honeycombs. This characteristic of the hexagon offers many design possibilities and opportunities to create a strikingly dynamic space. The hexagonal honeycomb structure in the ceiling serves a dual purpose as a visually striking element while also housing the lighting system.

This structure expands and contracts in harmony with the activity on the floor, flowing down to serve as display areas for merchandise and providing task lighting for specific functions. To maintain a cohesive design, the flooring, too, is composed of hexagonal tiles, and the walls are clad with natural stone mosaics in a hexagonal pattern. This integration of the hexagonal shape throughout the space creates a dynamic and cohesive architectural experience. The color and material palette were chosen to emphasize the merchandise and the hexagonal ceiling installation.

Solid pinewood is used to construct the lattice structure in the ceiling. A custom-made metal connector design was developed to ensure that no two surfaces of the hexagons collided, adding to the visual drama of the space. A neutral grey-colored stone and tile were used for the floor and walls, diverting the attention back to the focal points of the design. The combination of materials and colors creates a cohesive and dynamic spatial experience that is as artistic as it is functional.
